Padua (Padova) -  city of St. Anthony, here is the second oldest university in the country. The city is a great cultural center, which presents the construction of the late Gothic. Padua is located close to Venice, only 37 km. Its streets in the form of arches and the medieval squares give it a special charm and comfort. Padua is also famous for the local markets, where are a lot of products, and for the creations of the great Giotto.

In Padua you will find two big markets; the biggest and most important is a market located on two squares: Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Frutti, these areas lie to the north and south of the beautiful Palazzo della Ragione. At the market you will find fresh fruit and vegetables, wines, cheeses, wonderful pasta, seafood, in addition clothing, souvenirs and other interesting things. The market is open from morning to night and even on weekends.

Every Saturday at Prato della Valle open another market, where they sell mostly clothing, household goods, antiques, plants, gifts and more.

The city center was once surrounded by thick walls that protected it from the attacks of barbarian tribes and created a place for shelter during the raids. The towers were restored, but sometimes you can find areas in the style of XIII and XVI centuries.Inside the walls Herbs and Fruit areas, noisy, fragrant, amazing for its diversity of markets.

The area includes two palaces, one palace called  Palazzo della Ragione, here once sat city court. Inside the palace you will find a huge room with beautiful frescoes of the XV century which, not surprisingly, were created on astrological themes. Near this palace is still one, the Palazzo del Municipio, it was significantly rebuilt in 1904, however, he has not lost its mystique and mystery inherent in older constructions.

Then nearby  the Cathedral with baptistery of the XII century, where you can see the great fresco of Menaboui. Be sure  also worthwhile to take a walk on the square Prato della Valle, which is projected by  Andrea Memmo back in 1775. Around the square a channel with an amazing ring. Near the area was once erected a basilica, the Abbey of Santa Giustina.

Also among the important religious monuments is included the Church wants to set up in honor of St. Anthony of Padua, it is located in Piazza del Santo near the equestrian statue of the warlord Gattamelata.

The city contains many religious constructions, due to its history, always with reverence to the Church and to worship. Also, the  citizens  believed in the power of heaven, which protected  them from the attacks of enemies.

In Padua every year takes place the  very interesting Sherwood Festival, it lasts sometimes for a month, starting in mid-July .The festival is held in the park, not far from the main football stadium of Padua. Year after year, the festival gathers crowds of tourists not only from Italy but also from around the world, with shows and fun that accompanies every holiday.
