City Monte Carlo is the capital of the Principality of Monaco. This little state is situated in the Mediterranean coast. It is possible to cross it in one hour by walking but despite of the smallness of the town many richest people flock Monte Carlo from all over the world. Many people call gambling Monte Carlo as European Las Vegas. Here you can feel the real luxury and excitement, see expensive yachts and limousines, casinos and race cars. It is a city of millionaires, celebrities and the elite. Getting the nationality of that State is not easy, but it's worth because all citizens are free from taxation.
In the center of the city on the Golden Square is located the Casino of Monte Carlo with the oldest gambling center in Europe. The building was founded in 1862 but it burned down in a fire. It was rebuilt in 1878 by architector Charles Garnier taking a luxurious look. All gambling halls dedicated to various subjects are characterized by a rich finish, paintings, sculptures, lamps made of bronze. Visitors can choose between a lot of gambling English and American roulette, kraps, blackjack, punto banco and a big variety of slot machines. The casino also includes Opera Theatre that is decorated with magnificent frescoes and sculptures. The building is surrounded by an attractive park that stretching to the sea. Here, in front of the Casino is situated the luxury Hotel de Paris. This is the most popular and expensive hotel of the coast.
The city held racing competition in the automotive F1 circuit.In 1929 it was hosted the first race, and from 1950 the world championships are held here. Fans of racing are really impressed by the place.
Among attractions it’s worth putting into attention Prince's Palace - the residence of the princely family of Grimaldi. It was built in 1215 on the place of the Genovese fortress. The palace was rebuilt several times, each time reaching more and more incomparable architectural appearance. Up to present time princess family lives for over seven hundred years.
Another architectural monument is the Church of St. Charles, built in 1883 in the Renaissance style. The interior is well decorated and the ceiling is crowned with a large luxurious chandelier.
An important landmark is also the Cathedral that was built in 1875 in white stone on the site of the ancient church of the 13th century. In the cathedral are exposed paintings by the famous painter Louis Brea.
In the south wing of the Prince's Palace on the first floor you can find the Museum of Napoleon and a collection of historical archives. There are objects and documents of the First Empire, and many things belongs to Napoleon I. This collection began to be collected by Prince Louis II in 1919. Also here are the items of the Emperor Alexander II. On the second floor there is a collection of coins and stamps of the Principality.
It will be interesting to visit the Japanese Garden that is located on the beach, which covers an area of 700 square meters. The garden was designed by Japanese landscape architector Yasuo Beppu. Here plants, stone and water are joined in harmony. Many objects were imported from Japan such as a tea house, bamboo fences, shingles, wooden gates, stone lanterns.
