Passignano sul Trasimeno
Passignano sul Trasimeno is an Etruscan town located on the north side of Lake Trasimeno in Umbria Region. It is one of the major tourist centers and the old city center is still a typical medieval town with walls and streets of the 15th Century.
One of the monuments more interesting of the city is the Church of St. Christopher dating back to 11th Century built on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple. The arches of this magnificent Church are painted with frescoes dating back to the fifteenth century and highlight details typical of the Umbra School;
A Fraction of Passignano sul Trasimeno is Castel Rigore ancient village located on the eastern hills and in which it is possible to see the remains of the Castle built in the thirteenth century, the Church of the Madonna dei Miracoli dating from the Renaissance period and more it can enjoy a magnificent view of the Lake Trasimeno.
Not to be missed visit the Museum of the boats, housed inside the medieval fortress ,in which it is possible to see many examples of boats used since the days more ancient till to the present day; Another important event it is the Blues Trasimeno Music Festival which takes place July 25 to celebrate the patron saint of the city San Cristoforo
From Passignano it is possible to take a ferry boat to the Island Maggiore where it is possible to visit the Romanesque Churc of San Salvatore , the San Michele Archangel Church and the beautiful Villa Isabella property of the Marquis Guglielmi
A very important event that takes place in Passignano every year on the last Sunday of July is the "Festival Of The Boats"; It is a historical event that commemorates the rivalry between two noble families who, lived in the area of Perugia: the Baglioni Family and Della Corgna Family . During this event the four principal town districts challenge each other in a series of competitions that take place in three phases. In the period in which the competition takes place over the country is reach of various entertainments, shows and historical representations.
