Otranto is a nice city located in the South of Italy, rightly in the region Puglia on the Adriatic coast of Salento Area. It's famous to be the most eastern village of whole Italy, called also "the bridge from East and West". Its origins came from the ancient Greece, passing through the Roman Empire till the Aragonese domination. in 2010, the city of Otranto has been recognized as UNESCO Cultural Heritage and its one of most beautiful villages of Italy for live quality standards. The coast that is more than 25 km long, is characterized by sandy white beaches and rocky areas. During the summer the population of this little town mutliplies thanks to the beauty of its beaches and crystalline sea, the good cuisine and cheaper rates compared to the high quality of turistic services.
The city center of Otranto is enclosed by the defensive walls.
One of the main important sightseeing of the city is Castello Aragonese, an old military fortresse wanted by Fernando I of Aragona, now it usually guests exhibition of art and music.
From the square where is located the Castle, a lot of narrows streets and alleys depart. The ideal place where take a nice and suggestive promenade with a wonderful sea view,
worth of a stop is the little church of Saint Peter, dated V century, the oldest one of Otranto. But Otranto is most of all sea live and relax to the beach, among the most beautiful there are: Baia dei Turchi, with a caraibic sandy beach and limpid sea-water; Laghi Alimini, two basins of water surrounded by the typical Mediterranean vegetation.
Or the rocky beaches of Torre Sant'Andrea or Torre dell'Orso with the famous rock called "Two Sisters". Not so far, it's possible also to find an important Spa resort as Santa Cesarea Terme, that can offer a Wellness and Medical Treatment together with a classic summer holiday.
